Dr. Kalkstein completed his residencies in psychiatry and internal medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 
He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in Florida. Then, he completed his doctoral degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
