Description
The cleaning of your chimney will remove soot, creosote and blockages from your flue liner, smoke chamber and shelf, firebox and damper. Our chimney sweep technicians will usually be done in about one hour. If you are not sure if you really need a chimney, stove or furnace system cleaning simply schedule an inspection and we will advise you during the inspection if the chimney needs swept.

The cleaning process: We set up drop cloths in front of the fireplace and all other areas as required to maintain the cleanliness of your home and to ensure your house will be as clean as when we arrived.

Next we set up a special vacuum and seal off the damper or fireplace opening. The vacuum is used to collect the dust and debris created from the actual cleaning.

Although the vacuum doesn’t actually clean the chimney, it helps keep your house clean and is used for some clean up after the work is done. A good industrial vacuum is essential for professional chimney work, but the vacuum’s job is only to keep the dust out of the house and to pick up the loose material that is produced during the cleaning process. It does not, nor can any vacuum, actually clean the chimney.

We then go up on the roof and run the correctly sized brushes on rods up and down the flue removing the soot and creosote deposits as much as possible while the vacuum below prevents dust from getting into the house.

When we are done brushing the flue from the roof, we shine light down the chimney or use a video camera to check our work and perform a visual inspection as to the over all physical condition of the flue lining and chimney structure. We will share our assessment of the chimney with the customer when the chimney cleaning work is complete.

Next, we come back inside the house to the fireplace, or stove, and continue the cleaning process. No chimney can be properly cleaned with only accessing the chimney from the roof. Any chimney cleaning performed according to conventional standards has the chimney sweep perform work both from the roof and inside the home.

For a fireplace, we will use smaller brushes to clean the smoke chamber and damper areas of the fireplace. We then either scoop or vacuum up the soot and creosote off the smoke shelf. Sometimes the damper plate must be removed to properly clean the smoke shelf. Next, we scrub out the firebox and then further examine the condition of the lower parts of the system.

In a wood burning stove, we need to remove the baffles inside the stove in order to clean out the debris that was just brushed down the chimney. With some stoves, depending on the appliance, or with certain types of installations, chimney connectors may have to be taken apart from stoves to properly clean.

Finally, when the work is complete, the vacuum is turned off, and the equipment is loaded onto the truck.

We always provide a chimney system evaluation or report to the customers with respect to the condition of the chimney and the overall fireplace system; we will make recommendations for any needed repairs or safely improvements that may be needed.

Payment is then expected, unless other prior arrangements have been made.

Chimney Safety Inspections

Level 1 Safety Inspection

If your chimney performance, appliance or venting system has not changed and you simply want to be confident in the continued safe use of the system, you will need the Level 1 inspection done on an annual schedule.

We usually combine this service with the annual cleaning and sweeping that should be scheduled to guarantee continued safe use of your stove, chimney or furnace.

Our chimney inspection tech will examine the readily accessible portions of the interior and exterior areas of the chimney and the appliance or chimney connection. This includes the firebox, smoke chamber and damper along with the cap and crown on the exterior of your chimney.

We will be looking for any chimney structure or flue defect or under-performing areas with the appliance installation or connections. The whole system must be found to be clear of any blockage or deposits that may be combustible.

LEVEL 2 VIDEO SAFETY INSPECTION

A Level 2 inspection is recommended when you have had any changes made to your system. If you have changed fuel type, or had the chimney relined, if you have replaced your furnace or appliance (especially if the rating or efficiency differs from what was there prior).

If you recently bought the home and are not familiar with the system performance, plan to do modifications to your chimney, stove or heating system or have had a chimney fire recently a level 2 Inspection is in order. Level 2 Inspections are sometimes required prior to the sale of a home and we offer discounts to real estate agents and insurance adjusters for level 2 video inspections.

A Level 2 inspection is an in depth look at the entire chimney, stove or furnace system. It includes all steps covered with a Level 1 inspection and also includes a visual inspection of all internal surfaces and joints. We use a Video Inspection tool to look inside the chimney or flue. This allows for a complete top to bottom visual inspection of your system.

A written report is produced within 3-5 days of the inspection that details all areas that may be of concern and sent along with photos captured from the inspection.

LEVEL 3 SAFETY INSPECTION

The level 1 and 2 methods are included with Level 3 inspections, but with this type inspection further access to portions of the structure or chimney will be required to fully investigate the deficiencies that exist.

Many areas that are concealed from visual examination may need to be opened up by removing bricks, masonry, metal flue pipes, interior chimney walls, chimney crowns or other components of your system.

These inspections are only required when the earlier inspection Level 1 or 2 reveals a serious problem and we need to gain access to the problem areas hidden from view. Level 3 inspections are needed on less than 2% of all inspections when serious problems are suspected that require immediate action.
Animal Removal from Chimneys

Bird and Animal Removal, Live or Dead

Clean, safe and humane animal removal services available. Have you experienced rodent or other animals occupying your chimney? Call us today for all of your animal removal needs. We handle both living and dead animals. If the animals are alive, we will provide the right sized cage to prevent them from being harmed during removal. We will determine if they are healthy enough for release back into their natural habitat. If the animal is not completely healthy, it’s taken to a local nature center to receive the proper care. Unlike most other companies we DO NOT euthanize the birds or animals we rescue.

Do not start a fire to try to scare the animal to leave. Smoke and/or fire will inhumanely kill the animal inside the chimney, and it could result in damages to your home. The smell from the dead animal will stay in your house for many days.. An animal that is still living is easier to remove than a dead animal inside a chimney. Our technicians are very careful throughout the entire animal removal process.

Sometimes, animals get trapped in your chimney and die. Dead animals can create more issues over time as their bodies decompose. Animal decay is an issue that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible, we take the proper steps to ensure you and your family’s health and safety.

Note on bird removal from chimneys: If you have Chimney Swifts nesting in your chimney we CAN NOT remove them. Swifts arrive in the continental United States in late March and are gone by early November. Nesting begins in May, and sometimes continues into August. Chimney Swifts are protected by State Wildlife Codes and Federal law under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1916; there is up to a $15, 000 fine per bird and egg and possible jail penalty for removing active nests. Although Chimney Swifts can withstand a few early cool snaps, they will usually fly south with the first major cold-front in the fall this is the time to have your chimney cleaned and a properly fitted cap installed. This will prevent them from returning to nest in your chimney the next spring.
Chimney Repair and Rebuilding Estimates

We have a fixed pricing system on all repair items which includes cost of materials, cost of labor, etc. Estimates for repairs are provided at no additional charge with any cleaning and/or inspection service.
Masonry Restoration and Repair Experts

** Due to quality, liability and safety concerns we can NOT give estimates based on another persons or companies inspection report or observations.

In order to provide an accurate estimate for repairs we must first perform either a Level 1 Visual or a Level 2 Video Inspection dependent upon the situation. This is required to determine the cause of damage, the extent of repairs, and to take accurate measurements for the appropriate materials. Call for more information on all your repair needs. **

Tuck Pointing, Masonry Repair, Crown Repair, Rebuilding, Restoration Service
– Exterior Masonry Tuckpointing

– Crown Replacement and Overlay with CrownCoat

– Crown Patch, Repair and Overlay with CrownCoat (carries a 15 year mfg warranty)

– Firebox Tuckpointing

– Firebox Wall Rebuilding

Tuck pointing is a procedure you use to repair mortar joint in a bricks structure. It comes from a process of tucking mortar back into a damaged joint with the sharp point of a pointing trowel. This keeps water from entering the brick wall cavity. Once water gets past the mortar and into the wall, spalling (the bricks facing popping off) and cracking can cause your bricks to fail. This can result in a collapsing chimney or fireplace.

Chimney Caps

Chimney Caps (cost depends on size and type of cap plus installation charge)

One of the least expensive parts of the chimney venting system is the one that can prevent some of the most costly damage.

Chimney caps also come with spark guards to prevent stray airborne particles that are still burning from exiting onto your roof. In especially windy areas they also can prevent downdrafts by blocking crosswinds from entering the chimney.

Rain is moisture; and moisture is an enemy of a healthy fireplace and flue. Metal fireboxes, liners and dampers all can suffer rust and deterioration. Chimney liner tiles and mortar can crumble and crack leading to serious damage.

Caps vary in size, material and price. Our stainless steel and copper chimney caps and covers carry lifetime warranties. We sell and install both standard caps and custom multi-flue chimney covers.

We will be happy lo come out and make a recommendation for you and provide a written estimate to install a new chimney cap or chimney damper on your chimney (see above for run estimate information).

Chimney Chase Covers

Call for estimate: (913) 735-9225

Chase covers are the equivalence of the masonry chimneys crown. Found at the top of prefabricated chimney chases they are used to keep out rain, snow, critters, and everything else. Most prefab chimney metal covers start to rust due to rain, ice and snow that sit on the metal for extended periods. It can take as little as 5 years before you start to see rust running down the side of your chimney. Eventually the metal starts to pit allowing water to drip inside the chimney structure. You may hear the dripping sounds sometimes when it’s quiet in the home, after a rain. When you see the rust stains it time to replace the top.

Most chase covers are installed improperly from the start with no supports installed under the cover to hold up the large cap. This creates a instant pool for water and leaves to fall in and this starts the rusting process. Some covers have nail holes in the chase cover that start to leak when the old caulking gets hard and cracks. We can replace the chase cover using stainless steel with a lifetime guarantee or regular galvanized metal with a 7 year guarantee. Our custom made tops have cross breaking to create a dome effect preventing water from standing on the top, seamed corners for a tight seal and a drip edge to deter further damage and deterioration by causing water to run off and away from the chimney instead of down the wooden sides.

Chimney Relining in Masonry and Stainless Steel
Call for estimate: (913) 735-9225

Our chimney Inspection and chimney sweep experts will look at the chimney liner in your chimney very closely. This is one of the most important components of the whole system. If the chimney liner is deficient it can lead to many serious problems.

Chimney liners can be made of stainless steal, clay tiles or aluminum. Our stainless steel relining systems are UL Listed and carry lifetime manufacturer’s warranties. The flue that the chimney is vented through must be free of any cracks, holes, gaps in mortar joints deterioration to keep your system running safely and efficiently.

A proper inspection will inform you of the condition of the liner and your chimney sweep will make a recommendation if it is time to replace or repair your lining.

Chimney Waterproofing and Flashing

The durability and longevity of your masonry chimney depend mostly on its resistance to water penetration into the brick and mortar. Water can cause deterioration, corrosion, efflorescence, spalling and ultimately result in structural failure if left unchecked.

We perform masonry repairs and offer chimney water repellent treatment solutions that can help increase the life of your chimney and prevent unnecessary structural damage.

When it comes to leaky chimneys, loose, tom or cracked chimney flashing is usually the
cause. Comers are especially open to leaks, especially if the flashing was not installed well. Caulking can loosen over time and let moisture seep under the flashing. Leaks around the chimney cause wood rot and damage to roofs, valleys and ceilings. We pride ourselves on our step flashing, our cap flashing is formed out of a single piece of metal for each side of the chimney and we tuck it into the masonry both vertically and horizontally, practically eliminating the possibility of leaks.

At the first sign of a leaky chimney, you should have a professional do a visual inspection of the chimney, especially the flashing.
